 Member Since: August 28, 2013  RK: 1 MP: 0   | Sunday August 17, 2014 9:45 AM Hi all,I've a 1000pts 4ok game coming up in the next few weeks and it's going to be about my second or third game since second edition, certainly my first 7th edition. I've had a few play test games so I've got the hang of the basics and know some of the strengths/weaknesses of a few of my units. The 1000pts game is going to be my first competitive gloves coming off match. I've been tipped off that the bloke I’ll be up against (a gaming veteran) will be probably fielding Legion of the Damned and working from the Data Slate…or maybe ‘nids. My list is Ultramarine and I was thinking it would be best to go Daka heavy, plenty of dice against those 3up invun saves (or ‘nid hords) as I recon I need to be removing 5-8 models per turn since I think there'll be at most 40 models on his side of the board if he's LotD. So here it is – I’m up for changes and open to advice. With it being 1000pts I've had to trim around the edges, but I still think it's a good solid starting point. Or is this noob missing something obvious? The list - HQ CHAPTER MASTER [165] ---- ARTIFICER ARMOUR ---- POWER SWORD/BOLT PISTOL TROOPS [360] TACTICAL SQUAD ---- 4X 5 MAN TACTICAL SQUADS ---- VET. SERGEANTS ---- HEAVY BOLTER IN EACH SCOUT SQUAD [75] ---- 1X5 MAN SCOUT SQUAD ---- VET. SERGEANT ---- 2X SPACE MARINE SHOTGUNS ---- 1X HEAVY BOLTER TRANSPORT [110] ---- 2X RAZORBACK ---- TL-H.BOLTERS LANDSPEEDER STORM [65] ---- ASSAULT CANNON HEAVY SUPPORT PREDATOR [95] ---- w/H.BOLTERS-AUTOCANNON DEVASTATOR SQUAD [130] ---- 5 MAN WITH 4X PLASMA CANNON One thing I was thinking was to switch my Chapter Master to Tigurius to gain Divination, but he seems a lot less survivable than the CM and I’d miss out on Orbital Bombardment. I'm thinking of moving two Combat Squads forward in the Razorbacks and flanking with the Storm/Scouts to try to get a defense in depth and then just hose them down. I've always thought that cleaning the other guy off the board is the quickest way to victory. But since this guy is elite, maybe I should focus on claiming objective and victory points and just surviving until the end of the game? Aegis Defense Line(where's the rules for that?) or is there no point since LotD ignore cover?? Fully expect to get my butt handed to be, but I’d still like to put up a good fight!  Member Since: December 16, 2013 RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday August 19, 2014 3:53 AM the choices of legion or nids would lead me to think you might be wasting points on the plasma cannons. the only potential 2+ armor is a tyranofex which is unlikely in 1000pts unless he's being a douche. I'd go missile launchers and if you want divination try work in a regular libby with those points (I'd take the heavy bolter off the scouts too if they're to be mobile. |

Member Since: August 28, 2013 RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday August 20, 2014 3:44 PM I've spent more than 10 months painting an army, less than 10 minutes reading the rule book...Missile Launchers are a good idea, same points, 3" blast and should't kill the guy firing it. More H.Bolters would be even better, but I'm not buying anymore minis for a while. Didn't think Ultramarines could take a librarian with divination, unless it was Tigurius. But I'll re-check cos it would be worth knowing. I've some old Guard sitting in a box somewhere, and a Punisher painted and ready to go. Guard Allies? "You've got a 3up invun save? Great. I've got a Punisher. Make thirty of them, please." hehe Cheers for commenting. I'll probably pack the missile launchers and plasma cannon guys and see what I feel like on the day. Anyone else who stops by, feel free to tell me I still don't know what I'm doing, cos I still don't know what I'm doing. The more I read about him the more he becomes an auto-include. Not so sure about the Centurions - but I've been wrong before! LoL Hoping to get a few more painting threats in between now and the New Year, but I just can't catch 5 mins hobby time with one thing and another. Will post how I get on with this list after the dice hit the table.
