Member Since: May 11, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday October 15, 2014 1:22 AM Hello all, I'm gearing up for Crystal Brush 2015 and I wanted to start a new WIP thread. I guess the point is to get input from others on how to improve various aspects of my painting to help my entries be the best possible. Of course not everything in here will be entered, but every mini I paint is a chance to get better.I'll start off with a new 54mm figure I'm working on, it's Brogan the Bonecrasher from Andrea Miniatures. Here it is in its basic form: Here it is on it's full base. You'll notice a bit of greenstuff on the abdominal plate, that's because I had a small case of the dropsies and a small piece of trim bent. After the first day of paint: Everything got a base coat except the skin and the leather straps on the leg greaves (because I just missed them somehow). Some parts have been highlighted, and some need a bit of cleanup. Tomorrow I'll start doing the face/neck. Don't forget, if you right-click -> view image you can see the full size pictures. |

The cloth on the right arm was really messed up and I think I did a good job of getting that straightened out. Some highlights on the leather have been cleaned up.Does anyone have any good tips for the axe handle? In the past my realistic wood has not been good, any techniques you guys can recommend? |

Member Since: May 11, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday October 20, 2014 1:15 PM Thanks for the compliments guys.I don't have much of an update as I was out of town for the weekend at a wedding. I did do the hands, however. hopefully I can get more done in the next few days. On to another question: I'm painting a Rhino in Space Wolves colors for the SciFi vehicle/monster category and wanted an opinion from you guys. The whole thing will be the color of the top there, with highlights and shading and weathering of course, and the side panel is just the undercoat blue. I'm going to paint those front and rear indentations that Rhino chassis vehicles have yellow. What I'd like is your opinion on the exhaust vents. I was thinking of painting them red with the black triangle pattern that you see on many Space Wolves stuff. Do you think it'd be too much to have red and yellow on the same vehicle? Would it clash too much? Do you think it'd be better to paint them yellow as well, or maybe just the same blue as all the other armor? |

Fantastic work so far, soooo jealous of your flesh work. Just curious, what did you use as a primer? Looking forward to see your entry in the Crystal Brush in person, hope we can get together while there. Good luck.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

I used Rust-Oleum Painters Touch grey primer:It has very good coverage. If there are any spots missed, like in the arm joints or anything, I brush on some Vallejo surface primer, I use Light Ghost Grey: [[Edited by fluisterwoud on Tuesday October 21, 2014 12:43 PM]] |
