dhstarwars | Paint Threat December 2013 - Brush4Hire kickstarter barriers -COMPLETED |
Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday December 5, 2013 4:38 PM So I got the barriers in sometime last month and I haven't figured out what to buy my nephew for Christmas this year...then it hits me at lunch today..my newphew loves terrain big time...these have transparent red energy walls so not a perfect fit to his dark angels but it will do…I have two sets, so one will be chaos (mine) and the other set will be for him ...battle markings will be airbrushed in...or that's the plan...I'll post some photos once I get home.. They are just a bunch of laser cut boards now anyway… Hopefully my crummy compressor will holdout long enough for me to get a new one…praying my wife drops the cash for the one on my Christmas list…not too much $250…but it will have a air reservoir! That will get rid of those pesky "not lines" and maybe I'll get to using it for detailing instead of just base coating! So i'm in this month! Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday December 5, 2013 9:42 PM Thanks Sarge!here's how they start I've never done the stuff i'm going to try to do to these...we'll see how they look ...I'm going to try some "heated metal" work to them...I want them to be metallic and have a overheated look to them...saw this cool vid on how to use some purple, brass with some blue to make metal look over heated...you'd think that metal barriers with force fences would cause some overheating...right? and here's what a little bit of cutting and super glue leads to....quick work...if i can do these as fast as this, I might try to get my mutilators green stuffed & painted by Christmas so I can use them to battle my nephew....just think two deffies, 3 mutilators , 3 obliterators, 20 meat puppets (cultist) and 3 bikers and maybe a troop of berzerkers with a Khrone Lord! Dark Angels beware... I will be storming these walls!....might add a Demon Prince too...he just black right now... photo by dhstarwars, on Flickr |

Member Since: May 13, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday December 15, 2013 9:03 PM ok i've been so busy working and working on this...it's not as fast as I planned...Life does get in the way now-a-days....but I'm 1/2 done! my nephew's gift is done...now to finish my barriers!! I started with primer, then with my airbrush ->VMC oily steel, then a coat of natural steel, then I hit with Minitaire's brass monkey to begin the heated metal look...then I backed off a bit with regal red, then a bit more with spellslinger blue...then over all coat of coal...good coat on the tops so show the metal was burnt a bit...like when the energy field is off...I did put in a bit a battle damage and one symbol from his Dark Angels...only one since Wyatt does have some Ultras too...here's the rest Wyatt's Barriers by dhstarwars, on Flickr Not the best job, but i was learning some things working on these...photos are crap! I'm still unable to get a good enough camera to take good photos...need get my photo booth made! I have that in the works....Airbrush station was first...and complete now...works great... Thanks to www.Brush4hire.com for these cool barriers... and SavageForged Minis on youtube for the overheated metal vid! here's his work...way better than mine .. NOW TO WORK ON MY BARRIERS then I'll be done with this threat.....i think i'll do most of the primering before i punch them out...save a bit of time to work on my world eaters...yeah i'm indecisive on what i'm going to do next...but i watch Les painting his world eaters again....love how he did them.... Member Since: August 3, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday December 15, 2013 11:07 PM Kick-ass job on these! Diggin the effect, I need to use this to refinish a mini i did a few months back. At the time I couldn't find an example of how to layer that up. Now I can redo it. |
