You might have seen my Youtube channel around, maybe.Anyways, I picked up this chap today: This is my threat - to paint up this chap. I know it's not such a big job as many of yours here, but given my time constraints this is all I can see myself getting done! So I'm threatening to get this guy done! Some incentive to break out my paints and brushes! Will post WIP and stuff as and when! |

Member Since: December 8, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday December 9, 2013 12:02 PM Thanks chaps.I've started work on him already, I've decided I'm going to go for a dark brown flesh colour, with the carapace being a bug-like metallic blue. Ideally I'd love a two-tone kind of look, like a real insect. So when it catches the light it seems to shine different colours. Not sure how I'll go about it, but I've been experimenting with metal medium and Stegadon scale green, which is a nice mix of blue and green shades. |

I can't wait to see the new 'nids coming out...I showed the guy at the local games-workshop shop the new 'nids that made it in the escalation book...he didn't believe me...but there are a couple that snuck in the book near the last pages... Yeah it's just about getting something done...it's forced me to get my butt in gear for sure! setting goals and achieving them is what the threats are all about! and if you could see my closet of primed models you'd know there are more of us with little time than those with tons...just the guys & gals that have the time can put out so much great stuff so fast...peace and good luck....can't wait to see your color scheme work....please list details!! paints used and how....and your WIP pics!!! |

So I'm going to be using that, shaded with Drakenhof Nightshade. Tested it on a smaller figure and it looks pretty nice. It's not quite a two-tone, but it has a fantastic shine. I'm not the worlds best painter, so don't expect too much out of this, but thanks for all your encouragement guys! Will update again soon! |

Member Since: December 8, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday December 10, 2013 12:35 PM Here's where I'm at. Basically I'm at a stage where I'm happy with the colours, I just want to spend the next chance I get to paint on cleaning him up. There's a lot of blue where there should be brown, and a lot of brown where there should be blue. I'd also like to improve the blending on the tendrils. I'm sadly very out of practice on the painting, so this'll be about my limit haha The blood on the base and his mouth tendrils is Tamiya Clear Red, although I'm hoping to try the new Citadel blood effect paint soon. The base itself is done in that new crackle earth one they released... I forgot what it's called. The flesh has a kind of woody look to it, which I'm quite liking. It's like how some insects disguise themselves as a stick or something! I used P3 Battlefield Brown, Mornfang Brown and XV88 to produce the shades you see. The shiny blue Tamiya shell is highlighted with Vallejo Turquoise. I'd love your feedback on what I've done so far. I've got a lot of work to do for the rest of the month, but I'm giving myself a goal: Finish my real-work before the end of the month and I can buy myself a Tyranid battleforce! So with any luck I'll get to paint lots of Gribblies soon |

Member Since: August 3, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday December 10, 2013 2:21 PM I think it looks great. That is a cool color for the carapace I think you got the affect. Your shading looks good, but I'll just say that even black can be given a white highlight. I got this from Sarge.... Take a picture with light from your desired light source(direction) . Compare it to your model in the picture and where you see the faintest highlight paint it using lighter tones. Build up those tones one or twice. I don't mean to come off as a know-it-all Keep it going, see now you've inspired me to get moving on mine. |
