Member Since: August 4, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Saturday January 4, 2014 4:08 AM For this months painting threat I will be working on my mountain of Deadzone Terrain. I am going to be building them as permanent structures rather than maintaining the ability to rebuild then as anything. As a Quantifiable Goal this Will include a Landing pad on a hanger; at least 3 buildings; a tower; 6 barricades and at least 6 various structures which will likely constitute a fortification I will be building using parts from the following 'battle zones': 2 core world, 2 fortifications and 2 landing pads. Throughout December I had applied the a salt weathered grey finish seen bellow and painted various parts in a hammered metal spray. Coming into January I have spent time planning out some of the builds and masking and adding accent colours to the walls. This blog was a good read on painting the tiles and I am employing several techniques also discussed in his other deadzone terrain posts. Great to see some non-GW terrain being used as well.I've no terrain of my own - will be looking forward to learning a thing or two on how to go about it by following your work! Cheers! Member Since: August 4, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday January 5, 2014 4:23 PM OK so first update time =DI have been working on the Hanger part of the landing pad and managed to construct it in such a way as to save 16 tiles Its not black Magic or anything... just black foam core, plastic cross stitch grid, plastic sheet and hot glue Here is my wafflings about the how to's and etc. I'm quite happy with the results so far and I'm working on the detachable landing pad which will be able to be used as a separate entity. I will save all the weathering of the terrain till its all assembled, then I will go in with washes to break up the grey a bit. @Chris56Ryan: There was even more terrain in the box, Mantic do the best KickStarters and I cant wait for the second survey so I can get some more bits and pieces. @RustyDice: Yeah the GW stuff is a little to... skully... for my liking. Oh and its also mortgage your house expensive in New Zealand [[Edited by Alphapocalypse on Sunday January 5, 2014 4:25 PM]] |

Member Since: August 4, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday January 8, 2014 5:15 AM Been working on the landing pad portion. Its all assembled and will be removable. I've worked out a way to have the struts that hold it up removable for easy storage and also 4 of them will convert from 6 to 3 inches so I can use the same struts on the detached pad . |

Member Since: August 4, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Friday January 31, 2014 5:56 PM All done, and when I say all I mean the bits for the threat... I still have about a dozen bits to finish offI couldn't set up the bits for a for a isolated set of pic's as the were no sooner completed as deployed in a game which is currently on pause If the Tyranids seem familiar its because Diredrin's fantastic army is currently assaulting the imperial outpost. All the terrain was assembles as small modular chunks so I could drastically alter the layouts without having to re-assemble the bits each time This fortified bunker consists of 3 regular building chunks and one of the larger corner bits These pics show more of the regular buildings, above you can see one of 4 street light walls and below the buildings have an 'aegis' style wall there is another on the hill by the landing pad I constructed 2 towers, this 3 high and another 2 high which is yet to be finished The landing pad is detachable and doughnut shaped, there are eight legs and 4 extenders for the double height legs, this gives me the most flexibility as it can sit on top of any 1 tile build This fortified building is made of 5 bits, in total: Gate, 2x 6 inch walls with steps, larger corner (like the bunker above) and a small corner. By using lots of the triangle pieces in my fortification bits I can build a huge array of buildings or stretch them out into one long fortified wall. With the unfinished pieces added in I will have about 54 linear inches of fortified wall... I'm really happy with how these came out, I will finish off the rest of the terrain during Feb and also picked up a couple more core battle zones so I can make some larger building sections. my next focus though is to get some Dead Zone figs painted and start playing that =] |

You didn't go over board with the weathering and the paint job is very well done, kudos to you. Next time I see that you are doing some terrain I will follow a little more closely. Really nice to see some models from the threat in action, Diredrin's bugs and your terrain are a great combo. Congrats on the finish.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Member Since: August 4, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Friday January 31, 2014 6:21 PM Thanks Sarge, I was kind of expecting a quiet thread with terrain, its not nearly as interesting as the figures but its just as important. This tiny town doesn't have an LGS so there is no where to go if all you have is an army. I got a lot more Deadzone terrain, Mars attacks terrain and the wonderful Tablescapes things from Secret Weapon on the way this year, replacing a lot of my hand made stuff with produced stuff so I want to get them turned around fast.I will likely go back over all the pieces at a later date and add flavour to them with stenciled letters, hazard signs and dash of generic propaganda but that is not as important as getting on to painting some models |

I'm Having a lot of fun playing amongst it, can't wait to see who ends up on top in this game! Well done Alpha! |
