On Sunday I added two Whirlwinds to the threat. I'm not sure how often the minis will see light of day in the future, but I think they look cool, so for now, they're in! Here's some pics. I got home really late from work so it's only a quick shot with my mobile. As I get on with the shading and highlighting I'll switch over to my DSLR. I'm getting slaughtered for time but I'm muddling through. A big time saver will be when I sit down for 10 mins with a copy of the build instructions and make some notes on how I want the details painted. Each of the hulls are straight forward given the Predator last month, but the weapons and top hatch covers will need a bit of thinking. A few scribbles now will mean that near the end, with a day to go, I don't suddenly decide I want to stick it in the dip tank and do-over. Anyways - dinner date tomorrow. So it'll be Thursday before I can make a start back. If I can get the shading done before Saturday, I'll be feeling fairly good to finish this on time. More soon! A few hours overtime cleared the backlog and now I should be free this week to try and finish up the threat - Everything is base coated, shaded and highlighted. Going to do some assembling and work out how I want this detailed. If I can get a move on, I could even get done with the decals tonight which would be epic. Pictures later tonight....so stay tuned. Just no free time at the moment, so I'm really hesitating to do an April threat, even if it's just to do the outstanding work from March....will have to wait and see. Thanks for those who contributed with their support. Hopefully better placed for a finish next time! RD Scientists study the world as it is; Engineers create the world that has never been. ~Theodore von Karman |

Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday July 21, 2014 4:24 PM Hi guys - It's been quite a few months but I've decided to get back into painting tiny plastic things. I'll start with finishing off this abandoned threat, but to wet my appetite, I tried my hand at some scale modelling. RAF - Shorts Tucano In compliance with Flickr T&C the link to my page is here Clean and basic colour scheme. The reference photos show the aircraft mostly at airshows, therefore they look factory fresh, free of oil spills/weathering/chipping and corrosion. Therefore the challenge was to make a clean, gap free model with perfect decal work. Quite happy with how it turned out on the decal front, but I need to be more careful with where/how much glue i put down and by the end I was getting improved results and less cleaning up to do. I know scale modelling isn't exactly fashion around here, but I found the few months break and a change in subject matter has really switched me back on to mini war gaming and painting in general. So apologies if I'm breaking with tradition, but the model contained in the image is part of my trip back into painting, so I thought I should include it. What also helped was making a few contacts with local gaming clubs so I feel less like I'm in a bubble (none of my friends/family are really into this). Over the months I've entered my Predator and Terminators into local painting competitions. The Predator came in second, and the Terminators took first place a month later. Was really pleased with both results, and got lots of positive and constructive feedback. I'm now being sought out to enter something month by month, which I'm taking as a massive complement. Also, I've made a few contacts with local gaming clubs, so hopefully once I get that Ultramarine army bulked out, I'll be able to get my first few games in. I also popped in to a local war-gaming tournament held at my local University this past weekend. As it's an annual event, I'd really like to be able to enter next year with an army I painted up in my threats. So that's going to be my new goal. Also, looks like I missed a whole new rules update (7thed!!). Got the new rule book and I'm slowly making my way through it. Fingers crossed I'll get a game or two out of it before 8th-ed comes out.... I also missed a load of great threats, and a load of fun commenting, learning from and encouraging others. Look forward to picking up where I left off. More war-gaming mini painting goodness to follow soon - RD [[Edited by RustyDice on Wednesday July 23, 2014 4:26 PM]] Scientists study the world as it is; Engineers create the world that has never been. ~Theodore von Karman |

Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday July 23, 2014 4:26 PM Hi guys!!Quick WIP update - For the for tanks, I've re-base coated the detailing. Got a bit tedious after the first one or two...but the end result will be worth every brush stroke I know it! The Razorbacks - Each can carry either the bolter or lascannon options, or be changed to a Rhino The Whirlwinds - Each can be as seen or optioned as a Rhino In compliance with Flickr T&C the link to my page is here I remember after posting an army list a while back that Whirlwinds don't seem to be too popular. but I think the large blast and ignore cover option reads like it might be worth a few spare points now and again against horde armies. I think the Razorbacks read great all across the board - Might get myself another pair depending how the first few games go. Once again, the aim is to start getting practice games in before entering a local tournament around this time next year. So let me know what you think both in terms of paint work and use of what you see on the table top!
