Member Since: May 13, 2013 RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday October 8, 2013 11:53 PM Tonight's Progress, or my "Red" phase. Found a neat trick that got me the lacquered armor look I wanted with the reds. Started with a base coat of Reaper Blood Red. It dries a nice dark muddy black-red. Followed it up with a coat of Minitaire Scorching Red which is a bright orange-red color. I highlighted with a 1:1 mix of Minitaire Ancient Bone and Scorching Red, but only lightly. Then I used Minitiare Ghost Tint Fresh Blood brushed on as a glaze. It brings all the colors in line and when it dries gives the armor a very nice shine. Also, just like hand worked polished hard leather or colored metal, when it dries if it was applied with a brush, it creates slight variances that look almost like someone worked the color into the armor with a cloth. I'll have to post pictures once it's dry since it takes so long. The cool thing is that it also gives a great surface for any sort of washes you want to do since it's nice and slick. I'm really in love with the Minitaire Paint line, pretty much everything except the metallic paints are wonderful. For my metallic colors I think I'll stick with Vallejo, though. Tomorrow will be painting all the cloth black, and anywhere that is going to be gold. Also will lay down the browns for the leather straps, pouches and barrels.     |

I was pretty sloppy so I decided to walk away and work on the bases instead. I'll wind up going back and doing some black washes to even out the color and then go back and clean them up tomorrow, as well as lay in the browns for the leathers. I'm pleased with how the bases look at least. I'm a little behind my own schedule but I'd rather take my time and go through them until I'm happy with them. But if all goes according to plan I should have them done in about another week. The checkers on the legs will be one of the last things I do, figuring out how to cut the mask for them. Put in the silvers on the blades and embellishments on the armor. Still some cleanup to do for some missed places. Did the checkers on the armor, and on the leader did some Trollbloods Runes on the left leg panel. Made some solid progress on them tonight. just all the little things left to do really, then the washes.     |
