I did just pick up a couple of the new special effects paints that I'm really excited to try out though. The liquid green stuff was just so convenient...the Humbrol Model Filler will ruin any brush it contacts, and it doesn't really clean with water. To be honest, I haven't yet figured out what will clean it. I pretty much just scrape it off my tools with a fingernail and wash my hands, lol. That works fine so far though, and it's really fast clean up like that. *shrug* I need to grab a box of toothpicks and take up to my workspace so I won't have to clean anything at all after using Humbrol. A toothpick is a pretty perfect tool, and the Humbrol sands so nicely. The Humbrol comes in a metal crimp tube though, so eventually it's going to split down the side and dry up. In addition to the sad state of the liquid green stuff lately, I've had major problems with every GW aerosol product I've tried, which resulted in several ruined models. I really hope these special effects paints don't dry up on me! Here's the state of the Company Master as of last night:  I've been working on Sophie as well, but that model is being a real bear. It comes in way more pieces than it ought to, and they all have gaps, and pock marks, and spidery cracks. Also, apparently Reaper must have hired someone to squash and twist models before they go in the blister pack. The handle bars have her hands sculpted on them, and they were mangled in the blister. The motorcycle itself is in three pieces that don't fit well. The front wheel attachment is smaller than the area it attaches to, so that required some green stuff work. Then the front of the bike attaches to the back of the bike at whatever angle you please, except that if you put it at the wrong angle then either the mangled bars won't reach Sophie so her hands can attach OR she ends up leaning backwards. Also, it's next to impossible to dry fit the thing without at least partially assembling it, but assembly is so fiddley... Also, apparently Sophie is meant to float a little above the seat like she's in the middle of getting on it and still has the toes of one foot on the ground, so the awful hand-on-handlebars situation is the only way she really attaches. And then there's the wings...which may or may not touch the ground as they are huge. If they do have to touch the ground that will affect the handlebars as well...ugh. |

I was planning on painting tonight, and then I wrenched my back and can't even sit at my painting desk. I did spend a little time yesterday putting Humbrol Model Filler on Sophie's legs and wings. At this point I need to sand her and then glue-greenstuff-glue her wings in place and make sure there are no ugly gaps around her wings, and then she will be ready for priming. After that I'll wait about a day and then get started painting her. I'm actually still deciding on her colors. I think candy red and silver bike (not sure yet if NMM or true metallics); black shorts, boots, and vest; purple bikini top; reddish/golden hair; light, but not too pale, skin; and brownish/purplish wings. What do you guys think? |

Not sure if this has been brought up or not, but, Vallajo has a plastic putty, it's like green stuff, but white. I use it and it is pretty good.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |
