Member Since: March 1, 2014 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday March 2, 2014 1:39 AM in january I got a box of wargame factory WWII soviets. Took me a bit to finish getting them all together, but I think I finally got them most of the way done...ish. A few ammo pouches for the smg and lmg troops, and that should be it. I thought about adding more pouches, but the idea of peeling super glued shovels off my fingers did not appeal to me so I may pass on that notion. The box has 32, but I am holding a couple back to add to a quad maxim truck I picked up. So here is where they stand now. hopefully they will all get painted by the end of the month. nothing fancy, just table top quality, after all, quantity has a quality all its own. Right now though i am dealing with a quandary. See I already have a number of soviets painted up. I could go the more historically accurate route and paint this batch with a more varied uniform, or I could do them exactly like I did my last batch, which is army painter desert yellow, details, slap on some polyshade, varnish, base and done. Not going to win any awards, but good enough to die in droves on the table. This would be a lot easier. However, I do have a new airbrush to play with and can base coat small batches with some variation in main uniform color to make it a bit more realistic as opposed to uniform. Kind of want to play with my new toy...plus its raining and cold so using a rattle can is a bit of a no go right now. either way, here are my previously done Soviets. |

Picked up the Bolt Action rule book, will be hoping to put something together on it in the second half of the year. Looks like a great game. Good luck with the threat! So, 30 wargames factory Soviets primed and ready to go plus two flame thrower Soviets, Two anti-tank rifle soviets with loaders. Found that priming minis with a magnetized base on a steel roof shingle is really the way to go. |

Member Since: March 1, 2014 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday March 23, 2014 1:46 AM Finally got some work done on them. Finished the priming, did some touch up of the priming in a few spots I missed. First time using an airbrush for that little bit. I hit up the eyes and then did the webbing. took a few pictures of the WIP, so I will post those tomorrow morning. Not getting super fancy with them, Basic color scheme is Primer/Base coat/uniform: Army Painter Desert Yellow Webbing and gun stocks: VGC beasty brown Skin: VMC Flat Flesh Bedrolls: Khaki Boots: Black w grey drybrush Guns: Black w gunmetal drybrush Helmets: VMC russian uniform bases get a mix of Vallejo game ink sepia, SW Heavy Body Black, and water in a 3:1:1 ratio....ish. then drybrush with khaki and add a bit of static grass. After the base coats go on, I hit it with liquid cheater (minwax polyshade antique walnut), dullcoat it, and send them off to die for mother Russia. The leader may get a green uniform with fancy "shoot me first" blue pants. Tomorrow I hope to get a lot more done, but the eyes always take me forever so I feel good about todays progress. |

Reasonable progress. Need to finish the boots and guns on about 16 more, then its a bit of dry brush on the boots and guns, small bit of touch up, slap on liquid cheater dullcoat, and done.
