Member Since: March 5, 2014 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday March 5, 2014 5:56 AM Hello, everyone! I'm new here even though I've watched a few of WGCs videos on youtube before. I recently found out about Paint threats. I find it's a nice motivation to paint besides the goal that me and my wife has set aside to not buy new models until we are finished painting on our current models. It's also interesting to see what others paint. For March 2014 and my first threat, I'm building this one as the Normal Warsphinx with the Tomb Guard Crew of four. No mods here yet, but I do plan on doing some on my next box once I get the tools. Perhaps the most scary part in painting this model is the marble effect. I do not own an airbrush, so this is going to be purely brush painted (and hopefully decent at least!). Here is the current progress: All parts were primed with GW’s Chaos Black after being clipped off their sprues. For the Bone parts, I worked my way up from Zandri Dust, Ushabti Bone, Agrax Earthshade and White Scar. For golds, I started from Gehenna’s Gold, Agrax Earthshade, Auric Armor Gold and then highlights of Runefang Steel. I like the original Nehekharan color scheme despite my changing a few things here and there. The alternate blue and red details were painted with Sotek Green, Temple Guard Blue highlight and then Khorne Red with Evil Sunz Scarlet highlight. I’ve also used Rhinox Hide, Steel Legion Drab and Baneblade Brown for bandages, leather and parts of the Howdah. Now comes the tricky part — the marble effect. I wanted the Jade Marble effect they did on the Necrosphinx rather than the blue greenish one. For this, I did several tests on the Sphinx’s neck, which will not show up once it is mounted. I’ve decided to reproduce the marble effect using various shades and mixes of green starting from Incubi Darkness, Kabalite Green, Sybarite Green and a bit of White Scar. I’ll try to layer them as smoothly and softly as I can. The results seem to be decent at least. It was getting pretty late so this will be my stopping point. I’ll be lathering the “flesh” parts with Incubi Darkness and post my progress next time! On a side note, I did run on a bit of a wash problem (Agrax Earthshade and Seraphim Sepia) and it left ugly greasy stuff on the howdah and the Tomb Guards. I could save it a bit wtih new washes and scraping them off a bit, but the foggy look is probably permanent. I had similar issue when it was very little was in the pot and I was using the last drops. If that is the case I recommend you to go for new pot. |

Member Since: March 5, 2014 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday March 6, 2014 12:41 AM Thank you for the encouraging words! I'll do my best. This model is probably what won me over (along with Necrosphinx and Necropolis Knights) to get Tomb Kings. I like a lot more other armies, but one at a time. Regarding the washes, yes, I shook them vigorously and tried several times on some scrap sprues and got the same result. It looks great upon application, but dries up with that ugly white stuff after a few minutes. I took new pots and they work great. |

I needed to mute that black and used a dark green called Incubi Darkness for most of the marble parts. I also painted more of the gold parts and missed spots. I started the marble pattern with my mid color Kabalite Green, which is barely visible as it should be. ... then followed up with some Sybarite green. Tested to see how it would look like with the howdah mounted temporarily. Far from over, but we'll get there! |

I get coffee shakes, airbrushing hides the worst of it, but I can't get two eyes looking in the same direction. Looking forward to more!
