It is mostly because I just do not like batch painting. It is a habit I am trying to get rid of or a routine I am getting used, either way, it has been tough to paint 10 dudes with the same old thing over and over.Enough ranting, Here is a few WIPs and finished Picture of my Mauler. The color scheme I am going for is the box art, or almost the box art and the reason why everything is so bright is I am going to use a lot of pigments, washes, and vanishes. The pigment is now on. I made it by mixing purple, red, brown, black, and a bit of yellow soft pastels. A better picture to show and compare to pre and post pigments. Also, detail time! More detail is being completed. Eyes are done. Gives the model more personality. Oil washed and cleaned up. You can see how the details pop even more. Not the best picture but added some gloss to the mouth. Here is the complete model and its base. [[Edited by lazypug on Sunday December 15, 2013 6:01 PM]] - Fear thy Howl, Fear thy Fang, Fear thy Pug - |

So here is what I have done so far. Slag Troll [WIP Process] The Slag Troll is done. Right now I am waiting for his base to dry so I can paint it. I am trying out a new basing method as to my old one doesn't make the material stay for long. Hunter Grim[WIP Process] [Didn't want to make a December thread because one of our member is doing them as well] I am planing to finish off Grim and his friends this week (if holiday stuff do not get in the way) [[Edited by lazypug on Monday December 23, 2013 12:02 AM]] - Fear thy Howl, Fear thy Fang, Fear thy Pug - |

While this is my first time, believe it or not, attempting to paint lens/gems Grim standing in front of the metal horde....... Don't know if I am going to do more to his base. Wanted to go for a rocky mountain scene so I may put a pigment wash over it. Will see. Grim is done and now just needs to get a proper picture. - Fear thy Howl, Fear thy Fang, Fear thy Pug - |

Member Since: May 7, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday December 29, 2013 8:57 PM No problem. I decided to go with a warm white (click here for where I got the concept) and the reason I decided to go with this because according to his fluff, he is an albino troll. I already tried painting white skin on Prime grim with the grey to white technique, typical scheme we use for 40k, and it looked like troll poop. After that failure I did a lot of research on whites and picked up a few good tips but the video I linked to has to be the best way of painting a warm white. Personally, I do not like how the studio one looks. Sure, he looks amazing but Grim is orange not white in that scheme The colors I use are a bit different and I went for a darker base coat. A summary as below: Base 1:1 Brow:Khaki I used Vallejo Model Air Medium camo brown and Citadel OOP Kammando Khaki Highlight 1 Khaki I use just pure Citadel Kammando Khaki Highlight 2 (very, very little) 1:1 Khaki: Off White I used 1:1 Citadel Kammando Khaki and Citadel Bleached Bone Additionally, You can highlight Grim even further with just pure Bleached Bone to even an 1:1 Bleached Bone to White then glaze the skin with the base coat to tone it down and it will help blend the colors together Warning here though, make sure the glaze is THINNED, VERY THINNED and make sure it does not pool too much on the model. An easy way to make sure it is thin enough is to use your nail. Before slapping it on the mini, give your nail a quick slap to see if the paint is thinned enough (look for your paint transparency) I painted up one of his pygs The way I went about doing this guy was following the natural steps of basic layering but I overhighlighted as well as overshadowed? him that made him extra bright and extra dark. (almost white hightlights and dark purple shadows) because I toned him down with a few glazes of the base coat (Electric blue in his case) so in the end everything looks natural and all of the odd colors have been tied together. - Fear thy Howl, Fear thy Fang, Fear thy Pug - |
