It was actually difficult to find cork with a good texture that's thin. If the fragments are too fine it ends up looking less like rock/ruins and more like drywall so extra course is my pick.I tried some new techniques via weathering on these models. The first was mixing pigment with Vallejo "Sandy Paste" to create mud to go into the tire treads. It was a pretty easy technique, just make sure to use a crappy brush ![]() The other technique I hadn't seen before. I've seen a lot of car and motorcycle exhausts, and they rarely look perfectly polished. Instead the hottest parts like the headers get heat discolored in a purple and yellow pattern. Although I'm sure someone has done it, I hadn't seen it done so I thought I'd give it a shot. I ground up some pastels and tried to achieve the effect. The result is subtle, but I'm happy with it- ![]() |

The exhaust looks good, might want add a touch of rust, heat will rust metal as well as moisture. There's some special metallic paints, Alclad i think, that can give that burnt metal look, seen some very realistic aircraft exhaust done with this. Been a while, but look it up, might be worth giving it a go.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

![]() Member Since: May 10, 2013 ![]() RK: 1 MP: 0 ![]() ![]() | Thursday July 25, 2013 11:19 AM Yeah, it's just a bit more brown than Vallejo Game Color "Heavy Red". With white added for highlights It makes a nice color that's reminiscent of expensive tanned leather. I should be able to finish this up soon so you can see what the color looks like with highlights. |
