Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Saturday September 14, 2013 10:52 AM Thanks. I was trying to replicate the look of hot iron in a forge, the idea being that the runes on it are heating the sword up. That, and I thought it would be more visually interesting (and match the blood angels more) to have some more warm colors brought in. |

I tried using some color theory to make the blue more interesting to look at than my last librarian. I also was more conservative with the edge highlighting, in essence just doing it where light would hit rather than outlining everything. I think the latter was easier to do and the effect is better. The soot on the jet pack was another first, but I think it worked. Anyways, it looks like I'm done with my threat before the month is at the halfway point. At this rate I should be able to get the bonus threat in. |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday September 30, 2013 1:53 PM I managed to get a bit more done this month. I didn't do the Whirlwind, which was the "bonus threat" that I thought I'd do at the beginning of the month. Instead I thought I'd focus on something less exciting so I can save the Whirlwind for a primary threat. I managed to round out my Ravenwing squad to 6 over the weekend. Please excuse the (lack of) basing. I've decided I want to convert my army to a different theme, and I'm still gathering the supplies to do the switch. That being said, it didn't make sense to do the old style bases if I'm just going to tear them off in a few weeks. And just for fun, here's a comparison of one of the bikers I just did to one I finished in July. Can you guys spot the differences? |

Member Since: August 3, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday September 30, 2013 3:52 PM Black highlight is with blue grey and the white is layered on instead of what you did in July. Well that is besides the bases which you stated alreadyLooks great, how are you changing them up? What basing are you planning? |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday September 30, 2013 4:18 PM You more or less got it Socos. I was a lot more liberal with the German Grey highlights on the armor allowing the black to remain in the shaded areas, and I edge highlighted with VGC somber grey (a blue grey) instead of just adding white to german grey. I actually layered the feathers in July as well, but I went from wolf grey to white with a thin blue oil wash. Altogether it didn't create much contrast as you can see, so this time increased the range a bit and used a heavier blue-black oil wash. I'm also pretty happy with the reds, which I painted three different shades rather than just about the whole thing being blood red last time. It's funny, going on it seems like the sides of the bolters being a different color than the top will be too different to look good, but once it's done it looks more natural. As for the basing, I'm pretty sure I'm doing an urban rubble theme, so I'm in the process of obtaining walnut media and plaster for that, and I'd like to get some brass tubing and rod for pipes and rebar. Hopefully I can get some GW ruins too to cut apart and use. I didn't think the cork was bad, but I seem the catch hell for it when I show my stuff to better painters than myself. On the bright side, the cork was a bit monotonous. I have a lot of ideas to different things with rubble. |
