when you say walnut media is that the wood(fine wood) or shells? Walnut wood is really nice when varnished for a display board surround, but I have never seen crushed shells used, I guess it would do, I've used dried tea (please excuse the dust)from used tea bags, it does well for leafy underbrush look cause it is small and you can render it smaller by crushing. Other than that what else is there that is natural and off the wall? |

| Monday September 30, 2013 6:07 PM The walnut media thing is based on a strong hunch actually. I saw that GF9 sells a basing grit in a variety of sizes. It's advertised as being organic and porous, which they claim helps glue and paint adhere to it. I can't recall where, but some site had a warning about nut allergies for the product. Since walnut media comes in a variety of sizes for different blasting jobs, it came to mind. I think they're the same thing, just one is marked up a lot. I'll know soon enough. They certainly look similar-

I've been on a hunt around the house even got the little ones collecting odds and ends to try different basing ideas. The latest one is somewhat dangerous, it's pool filter DE, thought it might show as a good snow or fine sand, like desert sand, basing. It can really hurt you though so I might just throw it back in the trash. |
