That being the case, I'm going to carry it over and do it up for this month. No excuses. So for my threat, two ten man Grey Hunter squads. One has been base coated, the other needs some hair and beards sculpted then will be ready for paint. I will also be doing my four remaining Wolf Guard Terminators. I have other things to do, but I don't want to over promise again. This is more doable this month and I can hone my assembly line skills a bit. This is when all those awesome details and bits on Space Wolves become a nice pain... Good luck to everyone! |

Member Since: May 11, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday September 3, 2013 10:11 PM I suppose it is, but my base coating, and most of my highlighting is done with an airbrush so it won't be so bad. Just the details. Besides, what with failing last month, and how good the raffle is this month, I think it should be somewhat daunting. I just wish I didn't have to wait for my Green Stuff. My attempt with Milliput beards and hair was terrible. Thanks for the support! |

Added some additional highlights to the Terminators, and did up their power weapons. Not as pleased with the weapons as I'd like, but good enough for a first go. I did them in grey scale, but next time I'll either not do black at all, or keep it minimal with mostly grey and white to provide a better gradation. I then used Ghost Tint Plasma Fluid over top. I'll line highlight with pure white a bit at the end. Did some more work for base colors on the details, getting them caught up with Grey Hunter squad one. Now, a dinner break! |

It was a first, but I feel it was a success! I'm pretty happy with it. Now, these guys will get primed and base coated and quickly catch up with the other 10 Grey Hunters and the Terminators. Just need to keep motivated! Luckily, my two days off are coming.I grossly over estimated the amount of green stuff needed for this, so I got to practice with my new tentacle/rope/hose green stuff tool. Totally worth it. I also added some to a Terminator Wolf Guard. He had one of those heads that's bald except for some braids. One of several in the Space Wolf sprues I hate. Anyway, here are pictures of the Space Wolves, NOW WITH MORE HAIR, and 100% MORE BEARDINESS!! What do you guys think? As quick as it was to get the hang of this, I'm a little embarrassed at how nervous I was. I'll certainly be doing this for my other troops, and I'm debating on going back and giving the others this treatment as well. I really don't care for many of the styles GW puts out, especially top knots. I've always thought Space Wolves look better this way. I think I also need to try doing some shorter beards as well. Don't want them to look too similar. |

Member Since: May 11, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday September 22, 2013 10:34 PM Cheers!I have tried before too, but not in earnest. I found that more yellow than blue in the mix made a big difference. I also gave up doing fine details in the hairs, and just going fairly broad with the hair. That seemed to produce better results than I've had with other attempts hair and fur. I had a hard time finding good tutorials, none of which were videos. I'll be doing it again at a larger scale for a conversion using the Warhammer Giant. I think I'll have to do a different technique that's more detailed. Large power armor makes it easy to fudge hair placement. |

Member Since: May 11, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Monday September 23, 2013 1:25 PM For larger models, I think the technique that would look the best is to roll out the individual locks, like tentacles, and place them on. Then blend them a bit so they look as one. Then, once the GS cures a bit and is fairly hard, go in on the finer details so they stay. There's a decent tutorial which helped me a bit that describes this technique. This forces/allows more detail which I feel is necessary at that size as opposed to smaller models. It also allows for decent control and precision which in turn allows for dynamic posing of the luxurious locks that every Daemon desires. This varies from what I did with my Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard which was just pushing the GS around until I got a rough shape I wanted, the. I a ent in and added a bit more soft detail. When I get home this afternoon, I'll post a link. It's easy to find via a search but I can't remember the name offhand. I've found it pretty easy to do overall with a short learning curve. One or two was enough to feel I was getting the hang of it. It also helped when it made a point to sculpt in layers or steps, rather than try to arrive at the final look all in one go. Though the time between steps is insignificant, the mental separation helped. |
