Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Saturday November 2, 2013 3:17 PM Hi guys,Made some progress today - Flickr Page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92359999@N06 Simple base coat with VMA - French Blue 71.088 which went on nicely over VMA Grey Primer 71.097 I've noticed again that VMA seems to me at least to be very susceptible to scratches and scores really easily. So each time I finish a major painting step I spray on a layer of Vallejo Matt Varnish 70.520, heavily thinned about 10:1 with water. What I mean is - Finish base coat then matt varnish, finish the shading, then matt varnish, finish the high lights then matt varnish and so on. This seems to help a bit, without overloading the mini with layer and layer of spray medium. I've already done some shading and it's looking okay I guess. Might get some more highlighting done tonight, but will probably leave it for now. Some more pictures tomorrow afternoon...maybe. Thanks for checking in and good luck with your own threats! Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday November 3, 2013 7:47 AM Hi guys, Thanks for the comments and well wishes! My plans for this weekend were cancelled last second, so I decided to get stuck into this months threat - I made a load of progress. Yesterday (Saturday) I got the shading done and some of the highlights built up. VMA Dark Sea Blue 71.087 and VMA Hull Red 71.039 3:1 Then today (Sunday) I've finished the highlights and touched up some areas that weren't properly masked off. VMA Signal Blue 71.091 VMA French Blue 71.088 and VMA Light Sea Blue 71.089 50:50 VMA Light Sea Blue on the very edges I used a load of Tamiya masking tape and some bits of card so I didn't over spray and wreck the colours already put down. Last months terminators was my first time using a base, shade and highlighting process with an airbrush (before it was base colour, dark wash the crevices and dry brush highlights). I picked up a great deal of learning on the technique side of things and I've applied it here Hence, the colours at this stage are a lot more vibrant than they were with the terminators at the same stage. The washing and powdering later on after the detailing should bring down the highs of the colour levels and enrich the lows. Hopefully, I will be left with a nice 3D effect with lots of volume and depth to the mini. I think most of the work this month will be spent detailing, adding colour contrast and making sure the end result fits well with the look of the terminators to make it all look like a unified army. So I think I'm going to leave it until next weekend so I've had a chance to think about how I'd like to do that. I'd appreciate some suggestions! I'm basically making this up as I go along, with some added guidance here and there from YouTube vids. Hope you like the pics. Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday November 3, 2013 7:53 AM Yep - the weapons can be changed over with a little careful twisting. It's really useful to be able to put them on and take them off for highlighting so that bright spots more or less match up when assembled. No need for magnets, which is great cos I only have a few and I don't seem to be able to source any of the right size here in the UK. Thanks for the comments and support! Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday November 3, 2013 4:53 PM Thanks! I'm, really kinda excited about this one. I really hope the rest goes well so I'm going to be counting on advice and support from you guys as well as my own wits! I was tempted to do a quick and dirty detail and finish, but I want to see how far I can take this with the detailing and weathering. If I don't test my own limits there's no knowing what I could have achieved! Thanks for the comments and support. They really do help.
