RustyDice | PAINT THREAT - JAN 2014: TACTICAL SQUAD + LIBRARIAN [COMPLETE] + BONUS |
Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday January 1, 2014 10:44 AM Hi guys - I sketched out an Ultramarine Army list in the middle of last month at around the 1850pts mark. So far thanks to the threats motivation I've completed two elites choices and a troops choice in less than 12 weeks. While this is huge progress (some of this stuff has been in bits in boxes for YEARS) it isn't exactly rules legal yet. This month I'm gonna push to make the collection a playable sub-set of the army list, so I need an additional Troops Choice and a HQ. Hopefully then I can get a few learner games in down my local hobby shop. So this month I'm gonna paint up a Tactical Squad and a Librarian (and maybe give the librarian a jump pack) This should mean by the end of the month I'll have my first playable 40k force since 2nd edition! YEO! Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday January 2, 2014 4:50 PM Thanks for the support! Had the day off on New Years Day, so I up early and got stuck in - He's the story so far! The Librarian I picked up back when I played 2nd Edition, so maybe around '96-97. I stripped it back to the lead (yes, I said lead) and primed it. Replaced the bolter with a plasma pistol so if the perils of the warp doesn't get him, he can always blow himself up. The captain is here because I'd some paint left over in the airbrush and I thought, "Eh? Why not?" RD...out. Member Since: August 28, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday January 5, 2014 12:55 PM Hi guys,Thanks for the comments and support! I didn't get much hobby time this weekend but I was still able to make some progress. I've nearly all the detailing done and the minis with back packs, arms and weapons attached. I picked out some accessories (ammo pouches, purity seals and the like) for each model and test fitted them with some blue tac. Really pulls the minis together, so i think I'll add them in. So remaining I have to paint up and attach the accessories and a quick oil wash to pick out the detail. The only major effort is sculpting up the bases and some pigment weathering which takes time for drying and setting. Decaling is easy enough. Hopefully, I can fit a few hours in this week, if not then next weekend. Planning something a bit special for the librarian. I noticed that the standard is to paint them more or less in the Ultramarine colours, but I had a chat with some of the staff at my local GW who pointed out that as far as they know, it's never been formally established in the fluff. So...given that he'll be slotting right into an Ultramarine army, I don't think he'll stand out the way I'd like him to (I always get the idea that psykers in marine armies are marines apart from their battle brothers). I'm putting together a pallet of colours that are a range of blues and metallic blends that I hope will really make him stand out. Fingers crossed I can pull it off! Again, thanks for the supportive comments! The really make the difference. RD...out Scientists study the world as it is; Engineers create the world that has never been. ~Theodore von Karman |

I personally miss the weight in the old metal mini's... nothing says dreadnaught like having to counterbalance your gaming table to support it |
