Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Sunday June 30, 2013 9:37 PM For this months challenge I plan to finish the Dark Angels half of the Dark Vengeance set. The remains include 4 Ravenwing bikers (I picked up an extra one), the company commander, the librarian and the bonus interrogator chaplain. If I manage to get all of that in I might try to squeeze in a whirlwind or a command squad as well. I realize by starting this weekend I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I have to get hobby progress when I can rather than waiting for the first of July Starting with the bikers, so far I've cleaned them up and prepped them. I paint all most of the parts separately and mount everything on cork. It's time consuming, but I find it's worth it. I also did some minor conversion and prep work. First, I took the spare plasma wielding marine and repositioned his arm. I then noticed that his head looked awkward, so I proceeded to dig his whole head out and put in a different one to give him a more natural pose. I then cleaned up with some milliput. Next, I borrowed an idea from buypainted and I used styrene tubing to make the exhausts look more finished. Finally, I masked off the different planes of the bikes body and tried to mist a bit of a gradient onto them, then I edge highlighted all of the parts. It's a bit hard to see in pics, as black doesn't photograph well. Next up, I'm going to dig into the rest of the base coating. Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Tuesday July 9, 2013 1:21 AM Apparently I overestimated how fast I could paint this weekend (and I also underestimated how hot my garage gets in July). While I didn't manage to finish the squad, I made quite a bit of progress. Hopefully I didn't bite off more than I can chew this month, but the whole point is to challenge yourself right? Anyways, I'm more or less down to touch ups, alcohol metallics, oil washes, weathering and basing. Here's a quick shot- |

I run into the same problem with estimating my paint time, never seem to get as far as I thought I would. What brand of metallics are you using? Keep up the great work.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday July 10, 2013 8:21 PM Thanks guys. I'm not so worried about finishing these guys, it's the 3 other characters I've assigned myself for this month as well. These guys are getting pretty close to being finished. They're coming right along- |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday July 10, 2013 8:26 PM Sarge- I use Vallejo game color or Vallejo model air for most stuff. If the metal needs to look like its part of jewelry or high shine I use Vallejo liquid metals. |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday July 11, 2013 1:07 AM The Vallejo liquid metals are awesome Sarge. I would highly recommend getting a bottle and giving them a go.[[Edited by COURAGEnHONOUR on Thursday July 11, 2013 1:08 AM]] We can seldom get our children to do what we tell them, but they almost never fail to imitate us. |
