Took better part of a day to figure out where to put Madrak on the rock, and how to fix the rock to the base! Just having brain cramps, I guess, anyway I took some Apoxie Sculpt and pressed the rock into it. The bottom of the rock is concave, that's what was giving the headache. I wet the rock real good before pressing it, and crossed my fingers it would release, it did. I then let it set for about an hour, and used some rocks to imprint what was going to show. Once it set, I primed it, I masked off the center for a clean gluing surface. Now I can paint it, and then place the rock in to it, as I don't plan on painting the rock. This shows the rock in place, there are no gaps, perfect mold! I have started paint the figures, I am really beginning to like these guys. I have been listening to Celtic music on internet radio, and it fits right in with these guys. After all their fluff is a Scottish theme. Tartans, they have pipes, and they're blue, Scots painted themselves blue and scared the piss out the Romans, hence Hadrian's Wall! Guess that's what got me to get them, as I am 1st gen Scot/American. Anyway, don't have pictures yet, will post some soon. I have the skin done, will have some minor touch ups, due to errant bristle strokes, or shaky hands. Started to block in the base colors for the clothing, trying to keep the ton of leather from being too monotone is proving to be a challenge. Hope to have these guys done in a few days, time to paint is limited, and then it's on to Madrak.Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Brings me to Madrak, down to the wire with this, fingers crossed that I finish in time...lol.I am pretty pleased on how they turned out, first figures I've painted in about a year, so a little rusty. Just glad this isn't a competition....or is it? Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Wednesday August 28, 2013 11:34 AM Thanks, I use the Gale Force Nine static grass, I mix the green with the winter tan, I usually eyeball it, but would guess that it's 3 green to 1 tan. Also, when lay the grass down I use PVA glue with a little earth tone color added, this make sure it the glue doesn't show. I like to add a little water too, so it is easier to work up to the model. Finally, once the glue sets, I use VMC Tan Yellow and thin it to the point of it being basically colored water and then stipple it over the static grass.this takes that shiny plastic look from the grass, it takes a few passes but like how it ends up. I also hit small areas with a few extra passes and fade it out, to break up the uniformity of green, Oh, before I forget. When putting the static grass down I will take the end of a brush and gently push the grass down until the glue shows, gives the impression of thin spots, one the advantages of adding color to the glue. Thanks. The base color for the figures is VMC Orange Brown. I then use very, very thin GW Devlan Mud to tone it down and add shadows, I usually use VMC Smoke, but i am out, and finding Vallejo paints is a pain here. I then highlighted using VMC Tan Yellow and VMC Buff, adding them to the base color, once I am done I go over it with a very, very thin coat of the wash. The Quivers were done the same way, except I used GW Vermin Brown as a base coat. Hope this is what you were looking for? Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday August 29, 2013 12:54 AM Thanks. I used a triad of the Citadel paints. Base: Teclis Blue, Mid-tone: Temple Guard Blue, Highlight: Lothern Blue. For the high highlights I used VGC Off White, with just a little of the Lothern Blue added to it. I thin my paints pretty heavily too. Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |
