Im hopping to get enough time to finish the base off tomorrow. In the meantime here are some pictures showing the developments on the base. This is just a quick update so I will type up a more detailed summery of what was done when the base is done. |

Member Since: December 9, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday December 12, 2013 6:23 AM I Finally finished the base in whack Ob'lotai 9-0 Stands upon. I'm quite happy with how it turned out and have found the base looks a lot less bare now. I furthered the weathering and Found all of GW's new technical paints (Minus Nurgle's Rot) to heavily aid in this. GW's technical paints: I have found GW's Video tutorials and White Dwarf article on these new paints to be exceptionally useful. - Blood for the Blood God: has really impressed me, the way it splatters and shines like freshly drawn blood on a model. It is also slightly opaque allowing for the colours it is applied upon to glint through, strengthening its realism. Very easy to work with, I was also surprised by the deepness of the colour, It's a very beautiful shade of red if you haven't seen it already. I have heard of some stating you can mix certain colours with gloss varnish and achieve the same effect, but through using this paint I find this hard to believe. Definitely worth the investment. - Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust: These two paints have worked quite well in conjunction with one another. Whilst I followed the white dwarf tutorial for there use, I found after dry brushing Ryza Rust over the Typhus Corrosion, a loose wash of Agrax Earthshade helped add another layer of depth to the rusted metal. - Agrellan Earth: I used this a little differently from the GW tutorials, I had wanted the dust or dried mud effects found on these buildings to be more three dimensional, my previous way of doing it had been very flat (multiple shades of brown dry brushed onto the surface). This paint cracks, and not only gives the depth required, but produces a more realistic effect. - Nihilakh Oxide: I have talked about this technical paint previously, in addition to that I had also used it on the few additional bronzed/gold bits of metal (On the Lassgun, rings on the banner pole and space marine relic). This gave a bit more colour to the collection of things on the base. Alongside this I also finished the rest of the gold embellishments on Ob'lotai 9-0. A Question for those keeping an eye on my paint threat: as I am going for a weathered/battle worn appearance on Ob'lotai 9-0 I was curious whether I should use the Nihilakh Oxide on the Gold embellishments to create the effects of oxidisation on these parts? any feedback is greatly appreciated! If you're interested I can post a comparison between the base of Ob'lotai 9-0 and the base of O'vesa whom I completed a couple of weeks back. There are drastic differences and have found Ob'lotai 9-0's base to pop a lot more, the worn nature of the environment is more realistic, depth has been heightened and a consistent direction of light and shadow. Now its onto finishing the painting of Ob'lotai 9-0, his shoulder pad, smart missile system and seeker missile. |

Member Since: May 10, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday December 12, 2013 10:00 AM This is looking awesome, I really like the base. Just picked up the GW tech paints too, looking forward to putting them to use.As, far as I know gold doesn't get a patina like brass or copper, it mostly just darkens with age, so a brown wash would be more in order for gold. But, that being said, I don't see why you couldn't use Nihilakh on it, think it would look alright. Just my thoughts, go with how you want, artistic license and all....lol. Again, really nice work so far. Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Member Since: December 9, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Thursday December 12, 2013 2:47 PM Thanks for the wonderful feedback guys! Its great encouragement and spurs me on.I look forward to seeing how you use these, will you get the chance to use them on this months miniatures your painting? I might do a few tests on my test model and see, thinking about it now if I use it again I may slightly over do it as I know its quite pronounced on the base. The brown wash sounds like a good idea too, and may also be more fitting in conjunction to the battle damage. Agrellan Earth may be another option, and having it crack and reveal the flickers of gold. It seams more fitting and would go with the theme of Ob'lotai 9-0 like the city scape he fights in, has seen battle for quite a while. The problem with having an artistic licence is settling on one idea of the many I have come up with haha! [[Edited by Banished-Enclaves on Thursday December 12, 2013 5:11 PM]] |

But, I am a little behind finishing this guy, due to time, and an accident with him. But, I can see using several of the tech paints on the base, Agrellan Earth, Blood, and Rot. Will post when I finish him. Sarge "If you ain't CAV, you ain't!!" |

Member Since: December 9, 2013 Initative RK: 1 MP: 0 | Friday December 13, 2013 5:21 AM Wow this miniature is looking great! I'm especially loving the head of the horse. I could see the metal legs being a great area to test out Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust, would fit with the undead/zombie like theme of the miniature. You will have to post some images of the final result, and I look forward to seeing how you will utilise the technical paints. |
